05/20/18- Uncommitted, stands at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Worked mostly 84-85 mph with the fastball and has some length and rotational action in the delivery. When he got extended the fastball showed some late life. Showed a slider at 72-73 mph and a cutter that generated weak contact and showed potential at 80-82 mph.
12/15/17- Uncommitted. Stands at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds with a tall, strong frame with some room to still fill out. In the outfield Place takes aggressive routes to the ball with a strong arm and gets behind his throws with momentum that topped out at 86 mph with accuracy. Around the bag at first he fields the ball cleanly and stays under control with his throws topping out at 84 mph across the diamond. Offensively, the switch hitter creates leverage from both sides of the plate with his long limbs. Place showed power potential from the left side, but as he continues to refine his swing from the right side, it will give him power potential on both sides of the plate. On the mound, Place displayed a strong arm with more velocity to come as his fastball sat 85-86 mph, touching 87 with run while mixing in a 71-73 mph curveball and a 78-79 mph changeup. There are still some moving parts throughout his windup, but expect to see another jump on the mound as he improves his mechanics. Good follow as he continues to develop and grow into his frame
10/11/17- Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds with a tall, projectable frame. The Underclass Games participant demonstrated a strong arm at last week’s event from the outfield which showed on the mound this weekend. Simple wind up with a big front leg kick from his delivery throwing out of the high ¾ slot. Displayed a heavy fastball that sat 84-86 mph with some sink along with a 71-72 mph curveball and a 75-76 mph changeup that showed some fading action. Some moving parts on his delivery and inconsistencies on his landing caused the ball to tail out of the zone at times. Place is relatively new to the mound and as he begins to cleans up some of his mechanical flaws, there is some real projection with the frame and arm strength.
09/30/17- The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder played outfield and first base. He showed a lot of present tools and upside with his long and wiry frame. From the outfield, he comes through the ball well and shows a live loose arm and had low accurate throws topping out at 86 mph. He did not pitch on the day, but the arm really works and would be interesting to see on the mound in the future. Offensively, he is a switch hitter and with his long levers creates present power from both sides with an exit velocity of 94 mph, which was the best of anyone on the day. From the right side, he has a wide base with low handset. He shows loose hands, there is no separation and could see improvements with separation and say in the zone longer. There is present power with more to come. From the left side, he is a bit more rational, but gets better separation and level through the zone. He has a RBI single from the left side in the game. There is a lot of tools and a high upside.
12/15/16- Stands at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds with a strong, projectable build. During batting practice he hit from both sides of the plate where he showed pull-side potential from the right side and the ability to drive the ball into the gaps from the left side. Squared the ball up from both sides.
