Yet another outing this spring where the Mississippi State commit shows outstanding opposite-field power. Whitlock generates huge strength out of his lower half that’s paired with strong hands and wrists in an uphill bat path. Produced one of the loudest swings of the night, driving a ball way over the LCF wall for a big two-run shot. The above-average raw power for the senior outfielder is starting to become pure in-game as well.

Mississippi State Commit. 6-foot, 170 pounds. What this future Bulldogs Rd 1 outing taught us, is that the FB really plays. But why does it play so well? We can start with deception. He has a deliberate load in his arm path post hand break that throws off hitters timing, and the arm action is very well hidden from hitters vision. In addition to the deception, the arch and unique OH arm slot allow the pitch to play up in the zone very well. The arm action had improved backside connection throughout the outing, and Heath actually hit most of his 88’s in the 3rd and 4th inning which was highly encouraging. He had a no hitter thru 5, and stuck with his plan throughout. Blow em away with the FB, freeze em with the sweeping CB. But he also pitched backwards, keeping Islands hitters from guessing correctly. Whitlock is a very good competitor and a huge part of what we feel could be a run at the state championship for the Panthers!

Fall Underclass Trials
Positional Profile: OF/LHP Body: 5-foot-11, 155-pounds. Proportional build, lean, athletic frame. Hit: LHH. Balanced setup, hands start high and remain high on a short load, short stride, great balance, keeps things simple throughout. Barrel path works mostly uphill through the zone, gains extension more times than not, allowing for him to drive the ball with some force middle/pull, good feel for the barrel, quick hands, smooth, repeatable swing. Power: 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: LH. OF - 79 mph. Long, loose arm action, high 3/4 slot, throws carried and were accurate to the plate. Defense: Plays through the ball, fluid footwork, feel for glove while fielding, clean exchanges, short crow hop. Run: 7.52 runner in the 60.
Whitlock showed off his smooth left-handed swing during batting practice. He has great feel for the barrel as it remains in the zone for an extended period of time. Presently a lean 6-foot, 170-pounds, Whitlock has plenty of room to continue filling out his athletic frame.
