Barr broke out for the Hoosiers in 2019, slashing .255/.388.565 while trying for the lead in home runs (17) on a team that led the nation in dingers for much of the season. A draft eligible sophomore that spring, the Mariners made a run at signing him as a late flyer (37th round), though he chose to return to Bloomington last season. In a recent showing, Barr displayed good first step quickness and lateral range to his glove side before unleashing a strong accurate arm across the diamond. He collected three base knocks in my viewing, utilizing the whole field in the process. A middle of the order bat, Barr shows above average-to-plus power potential, but he’ll need to cut down on his 32% career strikeout rate to tap into it more consistently. With another productive year, Barr could come off the board in the late Day Two/early Day Three range.
2017 Spring Scout Blog: The Indiana commit was impressive again on the baseball diamond. Started on the bump, sat 87-89 with the fastball through the first two innings, with good command to both sides. Slider was 77-78mph, mixed in with a curveball at 74-75. Good feel for both pitches and will use in any count. Changeup is plus and is thrown with good arm speed at 75mph. Tumbling downward action got strikeouts to left handed hitters. Advanced feel on the mound with good tempo and rhythm. Arm swing is clean and fast, with high 3/4 release. Throws all pitches with good arm speed. Held pauses at top of delivery and quick pitched to disrupt timing of hitters. Advanced shortstop and plus defender. Hit second in the lineup with advanced bat speed and approach.
FUTURE GAMES 2015: Ran a 6.71-60 at the Future Games workout. Showcased arm strength across the diamond with carry. At the plate dispalayed gap power during BP.
4/15/15 GAME NOTES: Barr is a 5-foot-11, 165 pound middle-infielder ranked 11th in Indiana's 2017 class rankings. At Yorktown he starts at 2B and serves as the team's lead-off hitter. Barr showed athletic actions with quick hands in the field during in/out with fluid footwork and a strong, accurate arm. Offensively, he hits from an athletic, balanced setup. His load is smooth and uses a short stride. Barr generates quick bat speed with good use of his lower half and gets to extension. Last night he hit a 2-run homerun over the left center-field wall. He also ran a 4.13 H-1st on an attempted bunt in the first inning and ran a 4.39 H-1st later in the game. View video of Barr's homerun HERE
2/22/15: The 5-foot-11, 165 pound SS showcased plus actions with athleticism. His hands are quick and soft and showcased quick, fluid footwork. Possesses a strong, accurate arm across the field at 89 mph. Plus defender. Ran a 7.08-60. At the plate showcased an advanced approach at the plate. The lower half was explosive and generated quick bat speed, consistently getting to extension. Short, level path to the baseball, making hard contact. Athletic, quiet hitter.
PITCHING: 5-foot-11, 165 pounds pitches from a loose high ¾ arm delivery with quick arm speed. Level shoulders and good line to the plate. Fastball has run and kept in the zone at 82-84. Slider sat 73-76 with sharp break, cut action. Changeup was 71-73 with arm side run, but has a tendency to slow his arm down when throwing it.
