MWFG 8/16/13: At high-level type of events like this, usually pitchers make the biggest impacts. But few, if any player, created a more substantial buzz than the athletically built 6-foot-2, 195-pound Mann did. Hitting is the money tool, and Mann likely saved himself plenty with his offensive performance over the three days. The right-handed hitter has an advanced approach; he has excellent plate coverage and makes consistent hard contact. He went 2-for-2 with a double to center field in the first game. He also smoked a two-run double to left field against Kentucky. A sub-7 runner, the question is, where he will play at the next level? He very well can be an offensive second baseman with burgeoning power.
4/5/13 Game Notes: Mann showed tons of athleticism and solid defensive actions in pre-game warm-ups. The now 6-foot-3 sophomore possesses an athletic frame with a strong arm across the field. Shows good lateral movement and speed running the bases. At the plate displayed pop, scorching a triple to the right-center field wall in the first. In his other at bats just got under it, flying out to center. Tends to drop his back shoulder at times which caused the two fly outs. Bat speed is there.
June 2012: Mann is a 6-foot-2, 170 pound projectable infielder in his class. He displays good actions in the field, is smooth, and has the ability to pick it. At the plate he starts with a wide base, and an athletic approach. His hands work and gets to extension well, showing good projectable pop with the ability to hit to all fields. Mann is a 2015 prospect to keep an eye on.
3/14/18 - 6’3/200, Junior. Oversized middle infielder with good hands and an average runner underway. But, it’s all about the bat for Mann since he does not have a plus tool, nor does he profile particularly well at any single position. At the plate he showed an upright, even stance. Took a short, controlled stride while maintaining good balance. Patient hitter with average bat speed. Had a huge three-run double in Saturday’s 6-4 win, driving a 3-2 fastball to the left-center field gap. On Sunday he could not get his best swing off, taking a ton of pitches, walking once and striking out three times. He was well-pitched, but could have been more aggressive batting in the 3-hole. Defensively, he showed below average range and arm strength with his longer throws (more than 90’) having below average accuracy. Turns the double-play well. There’s some speculation he can move to third base where he’s better suited, range-wise. Unless there is major improvement with his throwing and carry on the ball for better accuracy, I would rule out the move across the diamond. I did not have the best look at Mann, but a team that does could select him in the middle of Day 2 of the draft.
