4/20/15 - Gomer is a Evansville commit and 2015 MLB Draft follow that attends Shawnee Mission Northwest in Shawnee Mission, KS. Class of 2015 right-handed pitcher. Wide-shouldered, athletic 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame. Matured physically over the last year adding size and strength. Easy, athletic delivery, low three-quarters slot. Fastball with arm-side run 84-89 mph, occasionally touches 90. Breaking ball with 11/5 shape, at times sharp. Threw five innings, three hits, no runs, three walks, five strikeouts in picking up the win against Shawnee Mission South.

4/2/15 - Evansville commit and MLB draft follow. 6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed pitcher. Has gained weight and matured physically over the last several months. Threw a complete game, seven-inning no-hitter surrendering one unearned run with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Loose arm, low three-quarters slot, athletic and easy delivery. Fastball 85-90 mph, touched 90 eight times and topped out at 89 in the seventh inning. Two-seam fastball was 84-86 mph most of the game with arm-side run. Breaking ball 11/7 shape, several swings and misses. Hit six batters, sometimes arm is late and ball takes off arm side, fastball and breaking ball backing up.

9/15/14 - We’ve seen Gomer a number of times over the last year.  He’s always worked in the low to mid-80’s with his fastball, but considering his frame (6-foot-4, 175-pounds) and easy arm it’s not difficult to forecast a velocity bump.  In a two-inning stint on Saturday he showed just that working 86-89 mph, attacking the zone and using just 15 pitches to record six outs.

8/6/14 - Gomer is an athletic 6-foot-3, 175-pound right-handed pitcher.  Tall at balance, strides inline, athletic finish body control throughout delivery, easy motion.  Three-quarters arm slot, loose arm.  Fastball with downer sink when at bottom of the zone, 81-86 mph.  Controllable slurve type breaking ball, 74-76 mph.  Change-up 75-76.  Faced four hitters in game - two groundouts, two strikeouts.  14/19 strikes.  Loose-armed projectable right-hander.

11/3/13 - We’ve seen Gomer multiple times this fall and he continues to impress.  It’s hard to miss the wide-shouldered 6-foot-4, 175-pound right-hander – if you look up “pitcher with projection” in the dictionary there is a picture of this guy.  He shows good balance throughout his delivery with an athletic finish.  The right-hander throws from a low ¾ slot that he raises slightly on his glove side fastball and slurve.  His arm works and its loose – everything about his delivery is easy.  Gomer’s fastball ranged 81-86 mph with sinking action consistent with his low arm slot.  His slurve-ish breaking ball was clocked between 69-73 and in the strike zone - every time we see him he shows command of this pitch, a rarity at the high school level.  He threw his sinking change-up in the 74-78 range.  Gomer also won the inaugural “5 Fastball Strikes” competition dialing in 4 out of 5 strikes beating out a group tied at 3.  He’s already getting attention from major college baseball programs and is a velocity jump away from being an elite pitching prospect.

10/19/13 - The 6-foot-4, 175-pound Gomer was nursing a leg injury but still went out and threw a quick zero on the scoreboard using only 12 pitches, striking out a batter in the process.  Whether the right-hander is working in the mid 80’s like we saw him earlier this fall when he was a 100% or low 80’s like Saturday his low ¾ arm slot produces a sinking fastball that bottoms out as it reaches the plate.  The class of 2015 product also, once again, showed command of a 67-69 slurve and 72-74 change-up.  The wide-shouldered, athletic Gomer, who plays centerfield when not pitching, has lots of room to fill out and develop more body control.  With his loose arm and feel for 3 pitches, it’s going to be interesting to see what a more physical Gomer is going to look like a year or two down the road.

9/8/13 - Gomer is a 6-foot-4, 175-pound, Class of 2015 RHP/OF from Shawnee Mission Northwest.  He has an easy, athletic delivery that produces a lot of strikes with a FB/CB mix and the long-legged, wide shouldered frame that catches scouts attention.  You don't have to project the strikes part but its fairly easy to dream about what the 80-82 (84 tops) FB might look like when he fills out and gains more body control over the next few years.  When he's not pitching, his overall athleticism is on display as he runs down fly balls in CF and also isn't afraid to steal a base.  In fact, he injured his throwing hand on the bases when a middle infielder spiked it on a pick-off play at 2B but refused to come out and immediately stole 3B on the next pitch - a clear sign of competitiveness.  Despite the injured hand he went on to throw 3 more innings.  On the day he pitched 4 innings, giving up 3 hits, 0 walks and struck out 5.  Gomer is definitely a rising prospect to follow closely in the 2015 class.
