One of, if not the most impressive mound performers of the day. Delivery is athletic and explosive. Arm works very well with noticeable looseness indicating there could be more velocity in there. Ball jumps out of his hand without much effort sitting 86-88 mph with the fastball. His 11/5 shaped breaking ball projects to be an above average offering displaying present depth and bite at 75-77 mph. Maintains arm speed as he tosses his 79-81 mph changeup that offers both run and dive. With his low effort delivery and pitchability he profiles as a starter at the next level. The Buckeyes got a good one with Kean.
1/16/17 Brings a high level of athleticism to the mound. Mechanics are efficient and arm really works. All signs point to added velocity as he matures. On this day he was 80-82 mph with heavy run at times. His breaking ball was very impressive. The pitch has very late, sharp action coming in at 70-74 mph. Also showed feel for a changeup, while keeping fastball arm speed. Has a chance to be really good once he takes that next step. Showed confidence in his glove. Tends to play flat footed at times. At the plate he uses a knee pinch to start his loading sequence. Hands stay rhythmic prior to taking an uphill path to the ball. Path creates inconsistencies in ball flight, would like to see him level out. Has the strength and bat speed to drive the ball into the gaps regularly.
7/26/16 An athletic prospect with a 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame. Has tools that will make him attractive at the next level as both a pitcher and a position player. More attractive on the mound at this stage. Arm works well through a high-¾ slot with his fastball sitting 76-79 mph with much more left in the tank. Has advanced pitchability for his age, showing feel for both his breaking ball and his changeup. Both pitches are well above average. At the plate he uses a toe turn load to initiate his loading sequence. Hands stay simple before getting through the zone on a downhill path. Would like to see him flatten out his swing to get better use out of his solid batspeed. Top exit velocity was 75 mph with much left in the tank. Was impressive during the infield workouts, showing fluid footwork and above average range. Hands work and arm strength is above average as he threw across the infield with 77 mph arm strength. Ran a 7.36 60-yard dash.
5/31/16 6-foot-1, 165-pound thin build. A talented two-way prospect who is more projectable as a pitcher at this stage. On the mound, he shows good rhythm in his delivery. Shows good direction to the plate, landing online at foot strike. Loose arm action from a high ¾ slot with average arm speed. Regular effort to his delivery. Fastball sat 79-81 mph. Curveball at 72-73 mph. Slider at 71-74 mph. In the infield he has obvious athleticism for his age with quick footwork and the ability to move well laterally. Tends to play from his heels, would like to see him play through the ball more frequently. At the plate he starts in an athletic setup before taking his hands back during his toe turn load. Gets through the zone on a level path would above average batspeed. Registered an exit velocity of 77 mph and ran a 4.45 from home to first.
1/18/16 6-foot-1, 155-pound athletic, projectable frame. The righty was very impressive on the mound. Goes with a smooth delivery with good direction to home plate. Stays tall as he gets to his balance point and has an upright finish. Showed quickness in his arm through a high-3/4 slot with his fastball sitting 79-81. Expect that number to go up once he matures and learns to incorporate more of his lower half. Spins a tight, 70-71 mph curveball with good depth at a 11/5 tilt. Mixed in a 72-74 mph changeup with fastball arm speed. At the plate he starts in a wider, balanced set up and uses a toe turn load with minimal hands movement. Has a short, compact swing that goes through the zone quickly. Exit velocity was 75 mph off the tee. His throws from the outfield were accurate and had good carry with 81 mph arm strength. Would like to see him use more of a run through to carry more momentum into his throws. Ran a 7.46 60-yard dash.
