Transferred to Lackawanna JC from Stony Brook.
Baran is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound LHP/OF from Hazleton Area HS. He tops out at 89 mph and has the potential to be a two-way player at the next level.
8-20-2018: Selected in the 22nd round of the 2018 draft out of Lackawanna College (JC). Baran opted to forego professional baseball and is intent on honoring his commitment to attend Penn State. Reported to the Cape on July 15 and put up impressive numbers out of the pen while helping Wareham on their title run. Strong bodied with a medium build at five-foot-ten, 190 pounds. Baran has some stiffness in his actions but pounds the zone with a consistent three-pitch mix. Working from a high three-quarter slot, the fastball sits 89-91 with some angle. Pairs it with a sharp 2/7 curveball at 76-78 mph and an average changeup at 77-78. Quality splits this summer with a 15:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 11.2 IP. (D Jurik)
