Five-foot-9, 180-pound frame. Left hand hitter. Barreled a 91 mph fastball from a lefty that was up and in to right field for a base hit. Quick, compact turn, tucked his hands and got the barrel to it. Patient approach working deep into counts. Did chase left hand breaking balls off the plate away with two strikes in a couple at bats. Balanced, even base, upright from the waist up, hands at the back shoulder, simple load with little movement. Compact, works to stay inside the ball working mostly to the middle and opposite fields during BP with a line drive approach. Has quickness on the infield with sure hands. Gets the ball out quick and in rhythm to first base on ground balls and double play turns. Quick exchanges make up for a lack of arm strength. Ran a 4.75 on the turn from home to first on a base hit to right.
5-foot-9, 160-pound middle infielder bounced around the infield showing advanced glove skills and an above average knowledge of the game. Showcased active feet, good routes to the baseball and a quick release with 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Ran a 6.81 60-yard dash and a 4.46 in game home-to-1B on a ground ball to short. Left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, heel-raise stride. Stays inside the baseball well and displayed an ability to barrel baseballs to all fields during solid round of batting practice. Went 1-for-7 with a walk in game action while barreling the baseball in nearly every at bat.
4/19/17 Starting at shortstop as a freshman, Furman played with energy, displaying good feet and solid arm strength for his age. 5-foot-9, 155-pound left-handed hitter employs a simple approach and short stroke at the dish. Ran a 4.66 home-to-1B time on a turn and a 4.09 on a sac bunt.
5-foot-9, 155-pound SS/2B ran a 6.88 60-yard dash and flashed solid defensive actions best suited for second base at the moment. Improved arm strength and physical maturity could allow for the ability to play on the left side at the next level.
