Gilliam, atransfer from Longwood, had a three hit, two RBI game. One of the hits was an impressive hustle double in which the first baseman showed surprising speed and acceleration after rounding first base. In the batter’s box the right handed hitter has good strength with an easy stroke and a very good feel to hit. For the series Gilliam had eight hits in 15 at-bats and has produced a .410/.493/.639 with 22 RBI this season.

VA/DC Scout Blog: Gilliam looks to have added more physicality to his frame during the Spring. Offensively it's from a athletic set up with a short pre-load to hitting position. Creates fast bat speed at the plate with a level path, showing nice extension through contact and power potential. Defensively Gilliam projects more as a corner infielder / third baseman with sound actions and a sound first step. Has plenty of arm strength to be able to stay on the left side of the diamond and showed that off in his one inning on the mound getting up to 88 miles an hour. He had one hit on the road, a rocket up the middle. He exaggerates his pre-load moreso with two-strikes. Right now he has created more a line drive swing that promotes hitting for average and lowering strikeouts, which he does very successfully. But looks like with work in college he could create more fluidity in the swing and that should really tap more into his power potential. I really think Gilliam has the potential to have a very good college career and could garner more interest down the road.

Preseason All-State: Gilliam is 6-2 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm to his swing. Hips explode violently and he maintains balance during his swing. Short swing, fast whippy bat, strong through contact, level line drive swing that generates power to all fields. Exit velocity was 100. On the infield, quick clean feet, works around ball well and fields with a wide base and soft hands. Pushes through the ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action, infield velocity was 85. Ran a 4.10 home to first

Very athletic. Short, loose arm action form a low three-quarters arm slot, average arm strength. Fields with wide base and above average hands, plays through the ball well, quick exchange. Short level swing, above average bat speed with some strength as well. Worked gap to gap, ran 4.5 twice. Bat has a lot of upside.
