Cape Cod- Strong body type at 5-foot-10, 185. He's an average runner and athlete, but looks able to stay at shortstop at the next level due to his above average-to-plus arm strength. His defense is ahead of his offense at this point, yet he did slash .289/.378/.453 for the Gatemen this summer after producing a solid .376 OBP with 26 walks and 16 strikeouts for the Crimson Tide this past spring.
2019 Clairemont shortstop Jim Jarvis is listed at 5-foot-10 175-pounds and is currently committed to Saddleback College. Strong, muscular and proportional body type with athleticism. Showed great hustle across the board and leadership qualities as he was clearly the best player on his team and helped elevate his teammates in a close game against a quality opponent. Confidence and hustle will help him stand out at the next level. Infield and outfield was clean, demonstrating sound fundamentals and a high baseball IQ. Arm strength is present and indicates ability to make all necessary throws. Displayed fantastic range when chasing down fly balls in left and center field that normally would be caught by an outfielder. Lateral mobility is sound but does not have plus quickness. Speed is average and showed a great understanding of proper base running technique. Bats left-handed and started the game with a bang as he took the second pitch he saw and hammered it in the gap for a triple, registering an exit velocity of 92 mph. Starts in the box with his feet slightly larger than shoulder width apart, keeping his hands steady before a small leg kick with some coil before a straight to the ball barrel path. Aggressiveness at the plate could hurt him at the next level but did show a good eye for pitches out of the zone.
Baseball movements are there and projects as a swiss-army knife defensively as his skill set could enable him to play all three outfield positions, third, second and shortstop. Short compact swing that generates 90+ exit velocity is a telling sign that his bat is projectable and proven.
