Cape Cod- Finesse lefty with an 87-90 mph fastball who flashed an average changeup at 76-77 mph and a short-shaped, tight spinning 71-72 mph curve.

Left-handed pitcher Lucas Gordon got the Opening Day start in Game 1 for Notre Dame in front of approximately a dozen pro scouts and the southpaw showed the moxie and stuff that has his name firmly entrenched in the MLB Draft discussions. The Texas signee came out working 89-91 mph early with his fastball that flashed run to the arm side.  He paired the fastball early with a 72-73 mph curveball with sharp, biting action that he commanded to both sides of the plate. Later in his outing he relied a bit more on the changeup at 78-80 mph with it’s diving and fading action. The pitch got better and better the more he threw it after some initial command issues. Gordon maintained his velocity into the fourth inning where he sat 89 mph with the fastball. The delivery is loose, clean and repeatable. For good measure Gordon provided the Knights with a walkoff base hit in the bottom of the 13th inning. 

Southern Cal recruit. Gordon was dominant in a ho-hum performance that had the feel of more of a bullpen with the amount of swings and misses that he garnered including the majority from his 86-88 fastball that touched 89 mph. He went mainly to his faded changeup (74-75) as a primary secondary offering, and was able to land it for strikes which included swings and misses. He also flashed a slower, bigger-breaking, 1/7 curveball at 68-69 that he flipped over for strikes early on in counts. The arm works free and fast with a consistent high ¾ arm slot. He overmatched the lineup that he was facing with the fastball which included some arm side life. Overall, Gordon looks the part of a future starter with three pitches that he can throw for strikes.
