Top Tier Roos Tryouts: 21/22's to Follow
December 19, 2019
The Top Tier Roos held their 2020 summer tryouts this past weekend at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Florida. The tryout was a three-day event which featured a workout on day one, showcase on day two, and game play on day three. Prospects from the 2021-2024 classes were in attendance, looking for a spot in the Top Tier Roos program. Yesterday, we looked at the top standouts from the tryout. You can view that story HERE. Today, we will take a look at some 2021 and 2022 players to follow.
2021
Andrew Dimisa (Berkeley Prep, UTIL)
Athletic frame and strong lower half. Offensive profile is currently as a gap to gap line drive hitter with a good sense of the barrel and the strike zone. The utility guy has defensive potential in the infield and outfield with athletic actions and an above average arm. 91 max exit velocity.
Sheldon Falor (Northeast, LHP)
Some deception in the left-handed delivery with a little funkiness and a short arm path in the back. Slightly above average quickness in the loose arm. Sat 84-86, up a tick from the summer. Mixed in a sweeping curveball at 70. Strike-thrower with good command of all pitches. Like the chance of more velocity to come.
James Hill (JW Mitchell, RHP/3B)
Really liked the tools shown in the offensive workout. He has quickness in the hands and an efficient lower half that translates to a lot of bat speed. Stays on plane, behind the baseball and works the middle of the field, emphasizing a right center approach. Up to 85 on the mound.
Brayden Mann (Riverview, SS/RHP)
Athletic build, thick in the lower half. Has a short, level hand path to the ball, working inside the ball and the middle of the field with consistent hard line drives. Good posture, power position and extension. 88 top exit velocity. Hands work in the infield with a slightly above average arm at 80 across. Up to 81 mph on the mound as well.
Will Parkinson (Berkeley Prep, LHP)
The strong, lean left-hander has noticeably gotten stronger. Worked with an up-tempo delivery and attacked hitters early. Worked with a fastball mostly 82-85 mph with some late life and showed a sweeping slider at 72 mph. Would expect he makes a jump this spring.
Logan O’Donnell (Lakeland Christian, C/3B)
O’Donnell has a very projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 175 pounds. The switch hitting catcher showed some gap-to-gap ability, spraying balls all around the field from both sides of the plate and hitting an exit velo of 92 mph. He looked comfortable around the bag at 3rd base with athletic movements and throws of 84 mph across the diamond. Really stood out behind the plate where his transfers were quick with pop times of 1.87-1.97.
2022
Sam Cole (Alonso, 3B)
Cole showed some of the biggest offensive upside of the weekend. He has a big, long frame with a high waist and a lot of leverage in the swing. Flows through the ball with good hands and body control. Power potential is there and really like the controlled, athletic movements in the box. 93 max exit velocity.
Evan Cuervo (Steinbrenner, OF/RHP)
Similar big, long frame with strength as Sam Cole, but is a left-handed hitter. Love the skill set Cuervo possesses with tons of power potential in the frame. Showed ability to lift the ball in the air with backspin. Presently more pull-side. 93 top exit velocity. Above average arm in the outfield, topping 83 with a quick release.
Quentin Meadows (King, INF)
Like the combination of a projectable frame and explosiveness in the offensive profile. Tools are raw, but his athleticism and twitchiness show in the bat speed. Gets into a good launch position with the load, drifts with lower half at times. Ball jumps off the barrel. 91 top exit velocity.
Nick Monile (Calvary Christian, OF)
Some compact strength in the smaller frame. Simple approach at the plate with advanced bat to ball skills. Athletic in his movements, ran a 6.90 sixty. Violent swing with a strong base and good posture. Bat speed is whippy, extends well through the ball launching from the back hip. Sprayed the ball to all fields, current gap to gap with a chance to develop some sneaky pop.
AJ Nessler (Jesuit, OF)
Nessler was a 2019 Future Gamer and has definitely filled out some since the event. The athleticism is there with the 6.91 60-time. Left-handed hitter with loose hands and the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Uphill swing path that has some sneaky power potential.
Christopher Roberts (Steinbrenner, SS)
Really liked the overall athleticism of Roberts. Looks very comfortable at shortstop with a quick first step. Hands are soft and has an above average arm. Offensively, he has quick hands and a whippy bat. Profiles as a gap-to-gap hitter with more power to come in the future.
