Preseason High School Preview: Liberty North

The 2024 Missouri high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Missouri. 

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Ozark come early June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Missouri. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason team rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

UPPERCLASSMEN TO KNOW

UNDERCLASS FOLLOWS

OUTLOOK

Liberty North’s back-to-back Class 6 state championships has firmly cemented the Eagles as one of the more successful runs in Missouri high school baseball history. A large group of the core that brought them those two titles has departed, but Liberty North does bring back multiple key contributors with several others eager to make an impact in expanded roles. 

Like last year, the Eagles will rely heavily on their upperclassmen, starting up the middle with INF Trey Snyder (2024; Tennessee) and C Bo Jonas (2024; Central Florida). Snyder’s been the everyday shortstop for Liberty North for some time now and he’s about as sure-thing of an All-State contributor that you’ll find in Missouri. Likely to have a large contingent of professional scouts at most of his games, Snyder’s ready to headline this club and put the finishing touches on a historic high school career. Jonas can really catch and the recent UCF signee should have no problem anchoring this group from behind the dish. The strength inside his right-handed bat should play nicely in the middle of this order as well. 

Trey Snyder

Sticking on the dirt, INF Cole Young (2024; Central Missouri) and INF Harrison Barham (2024; Kansas City Kansas CC) bring versatility and a veteran presence to this infield. OF Josiah Hall (2024; Adams State) and OF Nolan Whalley (2024; Drury) are two strong, physical right-handed bats in this senior group whose power should play nicely near the middle of this lineup on a game-to-game basis. 1B/C Carson Weldy (2024; Cloud County CC) and INF Grady Olson (2024; Benedictine KS) are two more seniors that deepen this offense even moreso.

You’ll find more seniors on the mound this spring for Liberty North, as a large contingent of the names expected to log innings are all in their final years of high school ball. RHP Gabe Perry (2024; Hutchinson CC) and RHP Matthew Lewis (2024; Butler CC) are two low-to-mid-80s arms that could find themselves pitching at the top of this rotation. RHP Tate Lange (2024), RHP Mason Burnett (2024), and RHP Kyler Chappell (2024; State Fair CC) are three other arms to watch on this staff, as are the aforementioned Young and Whalley. 

Gabe Perry

There are a few new names to know that could provide a positive impact for Liberty North this year. INF/RHP Jimi Oguntuase (2025) has upside on both sides of the ball on a lean-limbed, highly projectable 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. INF William Bologna (2026) and RHP Brayden Davidson (2026) are both top prospects in the state’s sophomore class that cracked this varsity roster. Bologna can really pick it on the infield and swings a clean, rhythmic right-handed swing that’s performed in front of our staff. Davidson can really spin a breaking ball, and the 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-hander pairs his advanced breaking ball with a low-to-mid-80s fastball.

BOTTOM LINE

A large majority of the Eagles’ contributions this year will come from their senior class - a group that’ll look to continue the success that came before them. Defending their consecutive Class 6 state titles will be no small task, but Liberty North’s veteran roster looks up to the task with the season set to start in a few days.
