PBR North Carolina State Player of the Year
June 21, 2022
Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce its North Carolina Player of the Year Award after the 2022 season generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.
BROOKS BRANNON, CATCHER, RANDLEMAN HS, 2023
Brooks Brannon led the Randleman Tigers to the 2A State Championship in the NCHSAA Classification of North Carolina High School Baseball. In route to the state championship he had one of the more historic years in North Carolina history. The North Carolina recruit broke three offensive records that had been on the NCHSAA record books for years. His 91 RBIs, 20 HRs, and 70 Hits all stand atop of the North Carolina history books for single season success. The RBI record was demolished as Brannon’s 91 RBIs was 29 better than the record set in 2018. His State Championship performance solidified the single season hits record, giving him 5 more than Shawn Gallagher had in 1995. The 20 HRs tied a mark set in 1989 by Brannon’s father, Paul Brannon.
Brannon’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on Randleman HS, in their championship season, has earned him the 2022 Prep Baseball Report North Carolina Player of the Year honors.
Brannon has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Brannon amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering games at diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of North Carolina.
