Scouting Report
12/14/21
Barton came onto the scene in February at Rawlings SE Mavs Scout Day, featuring a quick arm with a FB up to 83 and flashing four pitch mix. The 6-foot-2, 160-pound right hander just continued to improve throughout the year. Long, lanky frame with great projection and athleticism. Barton was up to 83-86 with a low 70s CB this Spring, mostly in relief. Then back in a starter role this summer, Barton unleashed the arsenal led by a heavy, low-spin FB at 85-88, touching 89 (T 2137 rpm Avg: 1904 rpm). Showed feel for two breaking balls with 10/4 action SL at 73-77 (T 2271 rpm) and 11/5 action CB at 69-72 (T 2224 rpm). Both play well off the FB, but really commands the CB for strikes and uses the SL as a put away pitch due to it's late bite. CH rounds out the mix at 78-80 with depth and fade playing off the sink on the FB. Uses it to neutralize LHHs, but will throw it RHHs to garner both rollovers and swing n miss. The delivery is quiet as he mixes timing on occasion with his loose arm working up to a 3/4 slot. It's an athletic finish with intent, but Barton has plenty of room to build strength and work into the 90s this next year. After strong outings at TN Underclass Games and PBR Future Games, Barton committed to Vanderbilt this fall and currently sits at 5th overall in the TN class.
