Physical: Lengthy, projectable 6-foot-3, 200lb frame with an imposing presence. 8.17 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, shoulder-width start with the knees facing slightly inward. Utilized a controlled, short lift and replace stride out towards the pitcher coupled with a subtle move to the shoulder for launch; initiated through a flat, even path into the hitting zone yielding consistent head high contact during his batting practice round (50% line drive rate via Trackman). Posted a 259 foot batted ball distance pointing to developing gap to gap juice while reaching an 84 mph bat-exit velocity. Matched pitch plane well with good bat to ball skills and carried a solid BP effort into game action with a few well-struck swings.
Defensively: The third baseman utilized a big hop in the prep step, getting active early in the footwork; arrived at a wide, shoulder-width base as the hands operated out in front with a funnel into the beltline. Average to slightly above pace and handled balls hit to his glove side with confidence; accurate, high ¾ slot and 79 mph arm strength.
Pitching: RHP - The primary righty began off the far left side of the rubber; moderate pace in the delivery with a medium-high leg lift at a balanced position before using a “tall and fall” approach stacking into the backside. Good torque downward over the front side and high ¾ release entering the zone at 80-82 mph with big arm-side run (18.2 inches average HM). Commanded a gradual 70-72 mph breaker for “get me over” strikes and countered with a 73-75 mph CH that showed flashes of above-average.
Physical: 6-foot-3, 200 pounds; big, long frame. 8.59 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Even base, knees bent, bat resting on back shoulder; small leg lift. Above average effort with hands are direct to the ball, catches the ball just on the way up; 16 degree bat angle into the zone via Blast Motion. McElhinney is able to produce 14 G’s of force with an on-plane efficiency of 75%. Hard gap contact; average Trackman exit velocity of 82 MPH; peak exit velo was 90 MPH.
Defensively: Low to the ground, wide base; consistent footwork fielding the ball off of his glove foot. smooth hands; long arm swing with an over the top slot. INF - 81 MPH.
Pitching: Sets up in the center of the rubber, deliberate, controlled actions throughout delivery. Longer take back, high 3/4 arm slot. FB: T 81 MPH, 75-81 MPH. Has some late tailing action. SL: 69-72 MPH. Late depth. CH: MPH. Deceptive arm speed, fading action.
Showcased a physically advanced 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame with present strength in his actions. The primary right-handed pitcher sat 77-80 mph out of a whippy, high ¾ arm-slot with repeatability in the zone. Mixed in a 69-71 mph curveball with small 11/5 movement and displayed advanced feel for a quality 69-71 mph changeup with occasional arm-side fade. The right-handed hitter begins with a balanced, even stance utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path into the hitting zone. Displayed a moderately low center of gravity in the lower half generating barrel whip with room for more yielding an 85 mph bat-exit velocity during batting practice. Ran an 8.22 60-yard dash. The third baseman demonstrated average footwork with length in his movements. Played moderately low to the ground with a semi-soft glove hand working through the ball allowing for an accurate 81 mph arm-strength across the diamond out of a power, high ¾ arm-slot.
Physical 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore sat 76-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, repeatable delivery. Fastball lacks true four seam rotation alternating between short cut action and occasional arm-side run. Curveball at 66-69 showed 11/5 rotation while changeup was erratic at 70-73. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased balance throughout with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Displayed a soft glove hand and accurate 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. Foot speed and physical size will prompt an eventual move to a corner infield position.
6-foot-2, 191-pound primary right-hand pitcher sat 76-77 mph with small arm-side run from a whippy, high 3/4 arm-slot. Commanded a 64-67 mph curveball from the same arm-slot that featured tight slider movement. Demonstrated advanced feel on a 68-71 mph changeup that showcased small arm-side run and depth. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and uses a short lift-and-replace stride to begin his swing. Displayed feel for the barrel driving the ball through the middle of the field during batting practice. Registered a 78 mph bat-exit velocity and recorded a 4.50 home-to-first time. Utilized soft hands and adequate rhythm during defensive evaluations. His noticeable 77 mph arm-strength gives him the ability to comfortably handle the left side of the infield.
