This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.

Standing 5-foot-9, Zion Martinez is a left-handed swinging, right handed throwing SS/2B from Norco High. The ninth ranked shortstop in all of California is also ranked as the fifty-ninth best player in the country, skyrocketing the ranks after an impressive sophomore season.

During his sophomore campaign, Martinez absolutely mashed, hitting to the tune of a .407 batting average and a 1.062 OPS. Martinez also showed off his power throughout the season, tallying six extra base hits, one of which coming via the long ball.

In the field, Martinez flashed the glove with a .983 fielding percentage on 60 total chances.

One of Martinez’s best games came against Santiago on April 29th. On the day, Martinez went 2-3 with a double and two runs batted in.

LakePoint will be a familiar place for Martinez. Two summers ago, Martinez represented California at the 2023 Junior Future Games. While there, Martinez gave scouts an early glimpse of his potential with his consistent approach at the plate and defensive skill set.

At the Future Games Tryout, all of Martinez’s talents were on display. Martinez ran a 7.23 second 60-yard-dash, had a max exit velocity of 97 MPH off the bat, and was exceptional defensively. With his performance, Martinez was ranked as the best overall prospect to come out of the event.

Martinez’s ability to take over the game both offensively and defensively makes him a must watch talent when he takes the field at LakePoint.

“Another loud performance from the middle infielder from Norco High School. The left-handed swing is among the purest in the class and the power continues to show itself both in batting practice and in-game. After launching an HR that was 101mph off the bat at the IE Preseason All-State, Martinez nearly topped that with another no-doubt HR in-game that was 99mph off the bat. He would later add a base hit that was 93mph off the bat while mixing in a walk as well. One of the top ‘27 middle infielders, Martinez’s left-handed bat and fast, soft hands on the dirt are current carrying tools. ”- California Scouting Staff
