6-foot-1, 195-pound athletic physical frame. During batting practice, Johnston displayed an exit velocity of 102 mph, Best EV of the day. Started in a crouched open stance with a controlled load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed is above average, shows an upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He created loud contact and found lots of barrels. Pull side approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 84 mph; has a natural exchange, and quick footwork. Had a high ¾ slot and a quick arm action. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.95. On the mound, Johnston showed nice command of the breaking ball (71-72 mph) from a very clean delivery. The changeup (70-71 mph) is also a soid secondary offereing that compliments the fastball very well.. The fastball (81-82 mph, T83 mph) was a pitch that he showed solid command to both sides of the plate with. Looks easy on the mound.
6-foot-1, 185-pound sturdy frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitters best exit velocity was 97 mph. Starts in an open quiet stance with a quick controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Has upward swing plane, efficient bat speed and a back foot finish. He found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Pull side approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 83 mph; has a clean exchange, consistent feet, and soft hands. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a consistent arm action and a ¾ slot. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.88.
6-foot-1, 180-pound solid frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 93 mph. Sets up in an athletic stance and used a leg kick. Bat speed is some and shows uphill swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact . Up the middle approach. While in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 82 mph; had a quick exchange and athletic footwork. Had a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.76. On the mound, exhibits good arm speed. Showed consistent balance point. Displayed a clean finish Threw his fastball 79-80 mph; has arm side command and sinking action. His 11/5 curveball (66-67) showed late action.
