4/26/19: Tall, long bodied righty at 6-foot-7, 200 pounds. Powell is a redshirt junior who sat out his sophomore season with elbow surgery. He's currently excelling as the Golden Eagles Friday night starter (5-2, 2.87 ERA, 62.2 IP, 63 H, 5 BB, 46 SO). Showed starter-type qualities in both his delivery and arm action. Easy delivery with good down angle to the plate from a high three-quarter slot. Lands on-line and repeats. Long and loose with good arm speed out front. Fastball sat mostly on 89, touching 91 on occasion. Commanded the pitch, working in/out at will. Maintained this velo throughout his 9-inning complete game, 115 pitch (90 for strikes) start. Mixed in a 87 mph cutter to his gloveside, keeping left-handed hitters off the plate. Also threw two other distinct breaking pitches in a 79-82 mph below average slider and fringe 74-75 mph curve. Occasionally added low-80s changeup with some sink and fade to his pitch mix. Overall, he lacks a current out pitch that one can project at the next level, but his current mix and command of all his pitches are his greatest present ability. (Seifert)
