Smith Bailey joins Team Arizona as a right hander with a great build with length and room to add strength. He has a clean and easy delivery from the right side and stuff that shows it's going to play at a high level. Smith Bailey threw 2 innings in game 1 vs Alabama, and kept a strong offense quiet in his 2 innings of work. In 2 innings he struck out 2, walked none, and allowed 3 hits. FB topped at 88 mph and he showed feel for the strike zone with 3 pitches. Bailey will make another outing on Saturday vs Team Canada.
6-foot-3, 140-pounds, tall, slim, long-levered frame, projectable body with plenty of room to hold more weight. Younger brother of Gray Bailey who is no stranger to PBR. Unlike his brother, Smith is a right-hander that is built quite differently than his older brother. While they may have different shape, you get some of same feeling when it comes to pitchability as Smith threw with some maturity on the day. Bailey came out pounding the zone, coming out of an easy athletic delivery with higher leg kick, good repeatability. Throws with long loose arm action from H3/4 arm slot. Displayed some arm speed with longer stride, good extension. FB sat at 70-79mph with some natural vertical action from his slightly higher release. Also appeared to use another grip showing significant sinking action at times. CV showed above average potential as he matures with more velocity, currently thrown at 62-63mph with 2037 rpm. Smith Bailey is going to be a pitcher to look out for in the future.
