Wastila showed physicality and strength on the field to lift balls deep during his BP round. His simple swing generated some power as he brings his hands through fast. Bat path is short and flat, and he strides into the ball well before turning his hips. Defensively, Wastila showed some soft hands at 3rd. He looked comfortable going to his forehand and backhand side but will benefit from improvements to his arm strength if he wants to stay on the left side of the infield at the next level.
On the mound, Wastila sat in the high 70’s with the fastball while locating well. The ball comes out over the top from a shorter arm action and pairs a curveball with some sharp downward break to work off his fastball. He also throws a changeup which looks to still be in the works. More velocity could be forthcoming as he is physical, but some minor mechanical adjustments may be needed as he stays very short and compact with his arm and stride on the mound.
