Interesting look at Sawyer Gelling, a long and lanky 2027 graduate out of the Eagles program that impressed our staff. Checking in at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, he made some noise at the plate with a loud, whippy swing that reached a peak exit velocity of 91.5 mph and carry distance of 300 feet. He does it with ease, leveraging his length as he gets his hands extended and through the ball. On the mound his arm-length is evident, as he did a quality job extending on his pitches down the mound (almost 7 feet). His arm moves easy with a fastball that lived 80-82 mph down in the zone, a curveball at 68-71 mph and a low-70s slider before mixing in a 73-76 mph changeup and an 81-82 mph sinker. Good day for Gelling, who has a chance to be a quality player as he grows into his body.
Gelling was a standout two-way player at the Victoria Eagles Scout Day event. On the mound he filled the zone with a FB, CB, CH mix. His fastball topped 74.6mph complemented by a 60-62mph. Defensively, he presented swift actions on the infield with a long loose arm. Gelling made noise at the plate driving balls to his pull-side while flashing a 90.4mph EV. The 2027 is a must follow going into the 2024 season.
