2019 RHP Tyler Shelley threw a no hitter until one out in the bottom of the 6th inning, giving up two hits before he was replaced. Tyler gave up 2 hits, 12 strikeouts, 2 walks and all 3 runs up to that point were unearned. Tyler used a mid 80's fastball with an outstanding breaking ball to keep the Chaparral hitters off balance, he uses a 3/4 arm slot that allows the breaking ball to run across the plate and then to allow his fastball to provide the difference between 85 and the breaking pitches that were between 70-72mph. His velocity seemed to improve as the game went along and he got stronger until giving up his first hit in the 6th inning. Shelley has had some tough luck starts this spring being 1-3 on the season, but has a 2.10 ERA. In 20 innings pitched he has struck out 27 while only allowing 10 hits.
5-foot-6, 145 pounds. Bats left throws right. Shelley is a do-it-all baseball player. At the plate hits from a crouch, toe-tap stride, hands load back with uphill swing. Gets full rotation in lower half. Off the tee produced a 79 mph exit velocity. Shelley has plus arm strength with body size in the outfield had top arm velo of 89 mph, and in the infield was 85 across the diamond from a high 3/4 arm slot. Looks fundamentally solid from both positions. On the mound throws from same arm slot, was inline towards plate, comes through then recoils back after pitch. Fastball lived at 80-82 touching 83 mph. Has high hips so you can see he's going to grow a lot more. Curveball had tight spin with 11/5 shape living at 66-67 mph. Ran a 7.3 laser timed 60. When he grows into body could easily project into upper 80's arm..possibly 90.
2-25-18
A 5-foot-6, 145-pound left hand hitting, OF/INF/RHP. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch. Good lower leg drive on the swing. Hands come through the zone and create good whip. Exit velocity was 84 mph. Defensively, he can do it all. He shows good instincts and actions in the outfield, positions himself well and throws from an over the top arm slot. Arm was 86 mph from the outfield. When he moves to infield he shows good athletic actions, soft hands and a lightning quick glove to hand transfer. Throws are strong and accurate at 84 mph. On the mound, arm action is long and live, high ¾ slot. Fastball has straight life through the zone, sat 83-84 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, flashed tight spin, 65-69 mph. Changeup sinks, near fastball arm speed, 75-77 mph. He finished with a 67-68 mph slider with late movement away on the hitter.
8-5-17
5-foot-6, 145-pound left hand hitting SS/RHP/OF who ran a 7.30 60. At the plate he is square with a heavy load to his back side. Weight drives through the zone and he shows quick hands with good whip. Exit velocity was 81 MPH. In the field he has a live arm, he shows good athletic actions fielding through the ball. Arm velocity was 88 MPH from both the infield and outfield. He delivers from a high ¾ arm slot with good accuracy to the base. On the mound he is sound mechanically. From balance he drives to the plate with his lower half and lands in-line on the delivery. Arm slot is over the top and fastball was 84 MPH with good command away. He showed good command of his off-speed as well, 65 MPH curve with 11/5 break and a 76 MPH change with good downward movement.
