6-foot, 195-pound, strong, thick durable frame. A well proportioned athlete, lower half has strength to it. A left-handed pitcher and first baseman, showed good feel on the mound and around the bag. Off the mound, delivery is simple, hands start and stay at mid chest, clean leg raise, direction is in line to plate, gets squared up on release of the baseball. The arm action is clean on the back side, works out of a natural ¾ slot. Pounded the zone with strikes, fastball was clocked at 70-73 mph, located to both sides. The change up is his top pitch, thrown with great hand speed, fade and action to arm side, clocked 65-68 mph. The breaking ball was clocked at 60-64 mph, had 11/5 break to it. At the plate, hands set slightly lower, feet are even, and lower half is under control. The approach is more to the pull side, barrel has some lift to it out front contact, tee exit velocity was clocked at 81 mph, and ran the sixty yard-dash at 7.86. Defensively, showed soft hands and good feet around the bag. The actions were smooth when starting the double play, gains ground towards second base. The arm was clocked at 69 mph. Projects for me off the mound, feel for pitching, pounds the zone, two quick innings.

6 feet, 195 pounds, thick upper and lower halves, strong and athletic, has a football player build. A left-handed pitcher, the frame suggests Richards will be able to log innings as a starter. Richards throws from a ¾ slot, working quickly in the delivery with intent. , Richards has yet to fully tap into his lower half and has a short stride. Changes in this area could be the catalyst for a quick velocity spike. His hands start at the belt, rising to the chest as he progresses through his delivery. Out of the stretch (where he posted times to the plate between 1.48 and 1.52), they begin up by the letters. Working a three pitch mix, Richards throws a heavy fastball down in the zone between 72-75 mph with movement. Already showing feel for his curveball between 61-64 mph, while the changeup is still developing, coming in between 66-68 mph, it did raise eyebrows as a potential weapon down the line. Still raw as a pitcher, the physical tools are there. Currently in his first season dedicated solely to baseball, expect more polish to come with further refinement. Overall, Richards is an under-the-radar prospect with a projectable, athletic frame, and worth monitoring this spring.
