5-foot-11, 165-pound long lanky frame. Athletic in the box, Thornton clocked an exit velocity of 93 mph. (63.53 mph bat speed average). (18.73 mph hand speed average). Started in an athletic crouched stance with a quick tight load, then used a toe tap stride. Bat speed was electric, used a simple loose swing plane and high finish. Through his round he found lots of barrels with loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws up to 83 mph; has choppy aggressive feet, soft sure hands, and a clean fluid exchange. Laterally, movements were quick and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a longer arm action with a high ¾ slot. Recorded a time of 7.1 in the 60-yard dash. Projectable on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle and a long loose arm action while showing quick arm speed. Up-tempo type pitcher and uses high effort. Balance point is tall with an in line shoulders during delivery. Lands square with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 83-87 mph; shows slight running action and command around the zone with sharp movement. (Max spin 2139; Avg 2040). He showed late action and decent control on his 11/5 curveball (70-74). (Max spin 2247; Avg 2233).
