7-21-2018: No pitcher at the showcase performed better than Stetson right-hander Vlad Nunez, who struck out the first four batters he faced and finished with five punchouts in 2.1 perfect innings of work against the Valley League. Nunez dominated thanks to his command, rather than overpowering velocity. He spotted up effortlessly at 87-89 mph, and he located his very good 76-77 mph curveball wherever he wanted, getting hitters to chase it in the dirt or landing it for a strike. Nunez is plenty physical at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, but as a senior who is already 21 years old, he may not have much projection remaining. He should be a key piece of the Stetson bullpen next year, and if he performs he’ll turn himself into a nice senior sign. (Aaron Fitt)
