Cape Cod: With a physical resemblance to David Price at 6-foot-6, 220 pounds and long levers, Hill excelled in the Cape this summer. Not only did he fire a three up, three down frame during the All-Star game in front of oodles scouts, the southpaw was also dominant during the regular season posting a 1.09 ERA in 33 innings. He allowed only 16 hits while striking out 45. He mostly pitched in the low-90s, but ran his fastball up to 96 during our look on July 19 against Chatham. Hill landed across his body and released from a high three-quarter-ish slot that varied from 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-5 on his fastball. His breaking pitch could be categorized as a sweeper. It’s an “in-progress” pitch that is delivered from a 2-4” lower slot than his fastball. Hence the name, it has more lateral break than depth and he controlled the 78-83 mph offering well, making it a useful pitch. He also mixed in a low-spin (1250-1500 rpm) split-changeup that flashed average at 83-84 mph. At this point in the scouting season, Hill is in the third-to-fifth round bucket of prospects with the potential to see late Day One with continued fastball command and the improvement of his breaker.
