Uncommitted. 6-foot 160-pounds. Pate was a standout at the preseason event this January. He has added strength and size since then, and is continuing to swing the bat well. He hit a left on left fastball the other way, with really good barrel control and pitch recognition. The frame and athleticism college ready, and will be able to play any position if needed. He has smooth and effortless actions at SS, and will be a big name to watch into the summer.
Positional Profile: 3B/SS Smooth actions offensively.
Body: 6-0, 160-pounds. High waisted, long levered. Broad shoulders.
Hits: RHH. Fluid LH swing with some physical upside. Gradual shoulder tilt as he begins load creating north/south swing path. Efficient front arm shrink. Dynamic path that can adjust to any pitch in any spot.
Power: 85 max exit velocity, averaged 79.1 MPH. 306' max distance. Sprayed to all fields.
Arm: LH. INF-78 mph.Full circle 3/4 slot.
Defense: Anticipates, solid glove. Can be more aggressive to ball.
Run: 7.09 runner in the 60.
Pate athletically covers the hot corner, showing a quick first step and feel for his glove. A 7.05 runner, he has plenty of range and enough arm to cover either position on the left-side of the infield. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, Pate has a long swing that sweeps through the zone, creating line drive contact to all fields.
