Wofford Commit. 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. When this springs season ends, I wouldn’t be surprised if this outing is still one of the most impressive performances I saw. He began the game with strike after strike, finishing each hitter off in 3-4 pitches with a surgical precision. Hitters had an extremely tough time picking up his FB or SL, as his nearly invisible short circle arm action comes out of the depths. He painted both edges with ease using his disgusting running FB as a real weapon. He was aggressive in on RHH hands all night, making them conscious of the inside FB only to get sliced and diced by his sharp upper 70’s SL. The pitch showed a short vertical shape that had some sudden bite, and he located it arm side the entire outing. Compton also showed some feel for the pitch backdoor to LHH. This is a perfect fit for Wofford and makes total sense he’s committed there, as he throws a high level of strikes with plenty of movement. This is a player who can be counted on early in his college career for quality outings.
Underclass Games
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed two-way prospect, strong, lanky build, projects to add more strength as he continues to fill out. On the mound, arm works short and clean on the back-side to a ¾ slot, quick hand speed. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands toe open, finishes square to home. Fastball sat 81-84, touched 86. Curveball, 12/6 shape, depth, some late bite, 67-74. Slider, slurve-like, 65-68. Offensively, wide, open setup, high hands drop and load back smoothly, short stride, balanced finish. Line drive type hitter, barrel works mostly level through the zone, showed the ability to use the entire field effectively, 85 exit velocity off a tee. Ran an 8.13 laser-timed 60. Defensively, arm plays clean to a high ¾ slot, 82 across the infield. Fields the ball deep, funnels into midsection, clean glove work and transfers, fluid footwork.
6-foot-1 185-pounds. Another strong, physical kid for the dingers. 2-way player that can get it done on the mound, at the plate, and in the field. At the plate he has a strong lower-half, and gets the hands through the zone. Power in the swing, had a ground rule double to deep left center. On the mound was up to 82, sat 78-80. Good command, and can flip the CB really well.
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher, strong, durable frame, proportional build. Arm works short and clean to a high ¾ slot, above-average arm speed, repeats, hides the ball well on the backside. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, front side opens up, lands square, finishes upright with some recoil. Fastball played at 80-83, controlled around the zone, did a good job climbing the ladder with, getting batters to chase. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 67.
