Body: 5-foot-11, 180-pound solid frame.
Hit: (RHH) Began in an athletic tall stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Explosive bat speed. Level finish, level swing. Line drive approach.
Power: 89 mph exit velocity, average 80.36 mph. 65.10 mph bat speed average. 21.83 mph hand speed average.
Defense: (C) Sure hands, consistent footwork, clean exchange. Solid. Above average flexibility and clean setup. (OF) Sure hands, smooth footwork, clean exchange. Above average. Fielded the ball out front with average movement laterally.
Arm: 84 mph outfield velocity. 79 mph catcher velocity. Short arm action, an-over-the-top slot, consistent accuracy.
Speed: 7.87 (60-yard).
5-foot-10, 165-pound lean frame; C/RHP. In the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 79 mph. Setup was comprised of open stance and a long stride. Displayed average bat speed, as well as a level swing plane and good extension on his finish. Used a line drive approach. Strong throw downs to second that hit 78 mph; displayed smooth footwork, a clean exchange and firm hands. While in the infield, showed ability to throw up to 76 mph across the field. Behind the plate, he had consistent pop times of 2.14-2.24; Showed an-over-the-top slot and a compact arm action. He clocked a 60 time of 8.16 at the event. On the mound, he used a high ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. He is a tall-and-fall type pitcher. Balance point is tall during delivery. He successfully located his changeup for a strike at 68-69 mph. Fastball sat 72-74 mph with a max of 75 mph; showed some action with tailing movement. His 12/6 curveball (66-67) showed sharp action.
2/23/2019: Alex McComb, C/RHP, Columbus North HS, 2022, 5 foot 10, 165 pounds, starts wide and slightly open. Uses weight shift and small leg lift to get to launch. Recorded an exit velo of 76 mph and ran a 8.81 60. Recorded pop times of 2.06-2.18 and threw 74 mph from behind the plate. Has good transfer and feet, stands too high in secondary stance. On the mound Alex throws with a shorter arm action and high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 74-76, CB 59-62, CH 65-68, and SL 60-62. Arm works fine, SL and CB need more arm speed. Still a lot of room to grow for Alex, skill set is interesting for his age.
