Uncommitted 2023 RHP. Athletic, projectable 6-foot-5 frame. Competitive nature on the bump. High ¾ arm slot with good arm speed. Consistent tempo throughout the delivery. Tall balance point. Tends to fall off line towards the 1B side which leads to some inconsistencies in command. Pitched mainly off his fastball, showing the ability to spin it at the top of the zone with good ride, but also showing some tilt and run to his armside. Cornett came out 88-91 in the 1st, touching 93 mph. He settled in at 86-89 mph and held that velocity for 4 IP. He threw a slurvey-type breaking ball at 70-73 mph. This pitch didn’t show to be an out-pitch currently, more to keep hitters off balance. Cornett picked up the W for Center Grove, finishing the day with 4 IP, on 4H, 2BB’s, and 7 K’s, allowing just 1ER.
Has good size and strength, with a well-proportioned athletic look to him. Displays a wire fast twitch body with good balance and coordination. Starts his delivery from the far left side of rubber, with a mid-belt glove separation leading to a ¾-hand pump. His H ¾-arm slot is fluid and quick. Has a short quick flinging style finish with a slight pull from glove side. When on line his FB has good movement and life in zone and gets in zone quickly. Short strider in his delivery at times, allows his ball to run and tilt. Aggressive full throttle effort. CB has spin and accuracy, straight changeup gives a late fade look. Cornett is a very good athlete with a very good upside. Staying his line will be key to his overall command while he has two usable pitches. FB 90-92, CB 68-72, that will be out pitches in his future.
Body: 6-foot-4, 185-pound
FB: T92. 90-92 mph. (Max spin 2438; Avg 2379)
CB: 66-72 mph
CH: 81-82 mph
Cornett hit in the middle of the Indiana Elite order which only helps amplify his upside on the mound. Wide-shouldered with an imposing yet projectable 6-foot-4, 170-pound frame, the big right-hander delivered fastballs at 85-88 with much more in the tank. Still developing polish on the mound, Cornett’s spin rates stood out as the fastball ran up to 2580 RPM, and received multiple swings and misses. Early on, he flashed a curveball with gradual break at 65-68, but demonstrated potential aptitude for spin by showcasing a firmer 70-74 slider with some sweeping action. Above all else, the frame and quickness of the arm stand out right now, and given his athleticism there is a chance that Cornett continues to make quick progressions in the future.
