Medium height and very strong wiry frame body. Some tightness to his actions but strong. Has room to fill out. Erect stance to swing, hands shoulder high, short load up, small hand waggle at trigger point. Some rigidness to his actions. Followed with bat speed and strength to his barrel to ball. Squared up some balls hard. Line drive type bat. Good bat speed and two hand finish. Showed plate coverage. Ran a 7.10 60-yard dash. Niehaus showed good range and agility to get ball in infield. Transfer to throw was coordinated and quick. Glove was soft and was able to throw at different arm angles. Alert player.
6-foot, 155-pound SS / 2B. Starts in a balanced stance, slightly crouched with his feet even; has a short, quick swing; stays inside the ball well; 86 mph exit velocity. In the field, shows smooth glove work and consistent feet; has a fluid back hand; consistently made accurate throws during the showcase; 81 mph position velocity. Recorded a 60 time of 7.33.
2/23/2019: Caleb Niehaus, SS/2B, Castle HS, 2022, 6 foot, 155 pounds, ran a 7.28 60, had an exit velo of 85 mph, and threw 77 mph across the infield. Has a wirey frame that will fill out the next few years. Has a very simple load at the plate, swing works a little downhill currently but he does barrel balls consistently. Caleb shows athleticism defensively with good hands and feet, a good release, and good arm action. He is a good follow in the 2022 class.
