4/26/18:The 5-foot-10, Oakland commit looks stronger and more physical than last spring, more arm strength from centerfield and ball jumped off the bat. Hit 4th in the lineup, drove the baseball to the pull side gap in first two at bats, best hitter with barrel control and good approach at the plate. Simple stride to swing approach, gets jumpy at times to the front side on takes, good hand eye, drives the baseball with some pop gap to gap. Got in good hitting counts, plays with a chip on his shoulder. Runs and tracks the baseball well in CF with good jumps and instincts, made good accurate throws in warmups with more carry and strength then last season. Chance to be an impact player at the college level in the outfield.

2017 Spring Scout Blog:  

5-foot-10, 165 pound outfielder is an athletic, scrappy ballplayer.   Tall, open setup with smooth back load.  Slight arm bar in hand load.  Quick barrel.  Long, level path.  Tough out, fighting off several pitches from a 3/4 LHP.  Aggressive on the base paths.  Good feel for the game.  Covers gap to gap in the outfield.  Above average arm strength.  Left-handed pitcher started game two for Andrean.  Sat 80-84 with the fastball.  Works from a quick pace, attacks hitters.  High 3/4 arm slot with above average arm speed.  Rotates over front leg.  Change-up has fade at 75-76.  Breaking ball has 1/7 shape at 65-69mph.

Scrappy, junior left handed hitting centerfielder showed good baseball instincts and twitch. Hits from an athletic setup, with small simple foot lift and hand load back to generate little separation. Contact, line drive approach at the plate with short stroke. Slight arm bar at front foot strike, causing bat to be long and drag through the zone. Has some bat speed and twitch in swing. Jumps out of swing at contact. Worked counts well at the plate and showed good feel for being a leadoff type hitter. Good jumps in centerfield and tracked the baseball well side to side and back. Above average outfielder with strong accurate arm. 

2/19/17: 5-foot-10, 165 pound outfielder. Left-handed hitter hits from an athletic setup.  Back load, leg kick timing trigger.  Good use of his lower half.  Showcased quick bat speed.  Long, uphill swing path that gets to extension.  Shows athletic twitch and hand speed.  Hard contact during his BP round, gap-to-gap type power.  Registered a high exit velocity of 84 mph.  Defensively, athletic actions with quick feet and a clean exchange.  Long, high ¾ arm action with accuracy.  Throws topped out at 83 mph. Ran a 7.44 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  

2/21/16: Athletic 5-foot-10, 165 pounder possesses athletic twitch. Athletic, fluid actions in the outfield with soft hands.  Good routes to the baseball and plays through.  Possesses an accurate arm with average carry at 83.  The LHH hits from an athletic, balanced type setup displaying a smooth load and short stride.  Good use of his lower half and balance.  Has quick hand speed with a level swing plane. Line drive hitter. 

7.20.15 - Athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Turned in a big game at the plate and in the field during the final game of the 2018 Top Prospect Games. At the plate he went 1-2 with a deep drive to the gap that resulted in an RBI triple. Defensively, made the best play of the day, a highlight reel diving catch in the outfield. Offensively, Thompson has looseness throughout swing, athletic hands and a quick bat. Balanced setup, small leg-lift and good balance throughout contact. Slightly uphill bat path and pull approach during batting practice. Registered a 78 mph exit velocity. Defensively, flashed smooth, athletic actions throughout the day. Throws from a ¾ slot, long-arm action, quick and fluid footwork. Clocked at 76 mph from the outfield.

7.15.15 - 5-foot-10, 160-pound, left-handed hitting outfielder. Went 2-4 with a double and an RBI on Saturday morning.

1/3/15 -  5-foot-9, 140 pound left handed outfielder possesses good athleticism.  Long arm action from the outfield with accuracy at 78 mph.  Average hands with fluid feet.  Clean exchange and plays through the baseball with athleticism.  Ran a 7.33-60 at the event.  Offensively, the LHH starts from a tall, narrow set up.  Smooth load with a short stride.  Uses a leg kick.  Good balance.  Bat speed is average.  Short, level path to the baseball with fluid rhythm.  Line drive hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 71 mph.  Young, 2018 with projectablity.  Good follow in the 2018 class.
