Burton showed a high-upside type look in his 'pen at Scout Day and continues to look the part of an up-and-coming prospect on the mound. He is a good athlete on the mound, controlling his levers well, with plenty of strength left to be added to his 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame. He gradually builds pace in the delivery and uses a quick, compact arm circle that works to a high OTT slot that comes out of a 6-foot-6 release height. Additionally, he gets big extension as he works down the mound that will surely play his 83-84 mph heater up in game. Also, he averaged nearly 20" of IVB on the heater, another trait to suggest the fastball will play even higher when a hitter is in the box. His 71-74 CB plays with big depth as it tumbles from his high release height, and his 77-79 change is his most-polished secondary. The change is sold with fastball arm speed and controlled well, despite playing with just a bit of arm-side run. He threw this 'pen in the midst of basketball season, so I expect the pure fastball velocity to tick up further later this season, but the frame and present mix of stuff and release traits will make him a close follow for our staff as this class ages.
