+ RHP Jack Kunas (Munster): One of my favorite arms left on the board; projectable 6-foot-2, 190-pounder with physicality beginning to emerge. Athletic, well-sequenced delivery lands square to home as a loose, whippy arm stroke is powered to a high 3/4 slot. The fastball is what I like best - he controls it to all parts of the zone at 88-90 and up to 91 in this look. The FB plays with big ride/run life to get above barrels and he got good hitters to swing-and-miss on it in this look. His breaking ball played at 72-74 with some shape manipulation. At times, the breaking ball looked more like an 11/5 CB, while others were more sweepy. He controlled both pitches well, and there is a usable change in the bag. His velos have trended steadily, but the strike-throwing nature remains.
Smooth mover with a loose whippy arm that has taken a step up since our last look in the fall from an arm speed perspective. 6-foot-2 frame has packed on noticeable strength, now listed at 190-pounds. The fastball is the best pitch for Kunas as it shows late arm-side life at 88-90. The fastball should continue to miss bats like we've seen in the past, especially with the firmer velocity he showed at this event, and he also controls an average slider in the mid-70s and a sinking low-80s change that tunnels well off the heater. Though neither secondary is a true bat-misser at this stage, the ability to consistently command the zone and pitch with a fastball creates a starter profile.
Kunas is a fast-rising arm from the region who showed off big fastball jumps during a dominant outing at the State Games. There is a loose whip to the arm stroke with projections remaining in the 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, presently producing a heater that abused the opposition while playing 85-87, and touching 88 mph. There was some manipulation to the fastball, sinking it at the bottom while creating some lift up top, playing it up with big extension as his long-levers got down the mound well. There were flashes of an above average breaking ball, showing some sweep on a low-70s offering while also showing an upper-70s change. He controlled three, allowing the starters' tab to stay on, and he could really continue to elevate if the breaking ball ticks up a grade consistently. Regardless, Kunas leaves as the biggest winner amongst '27 P's, cementing himself as a 'Name-to-Know' uncommitted arm in the class.
Lanky, projectable, 6-foot-1, 165 pounder, pick to click candidate. Up-tempo, drop & drive delivery w levers flying around, though there is some feel to control and stay in-line, linear operation. Loose, quick arm works to high 3/4 slot w lower release height for the slot given the drop&drive. Fastball works at 83-86 now with strength gains likely boosting those numbers. He got around a softer, upper-60s sweeper that played with bigger shape. The 66-68 curveball works with depth & plays best with the fastball slot, & he rounded out his 4-pitch mix with a 74-76 change that showed some arm-side wiggle.
