2019 INDIANA STATE GAMES: Cincinnati commit stands 6-foot-4, 205 pounds and pitches with good pace and confidence. Righty throws out of a high ¾ slot with a short arm swing and regular effort. Shoulders uphill in the slide. Lands square and in line. Fastball tends up with a heavy, riding path to the plate but can be erratic at times. Thrown at 87-89 topping out at 91. Curveball is slow at 66-68 with gradual action as the arm slows. Slider is thrown more firm with more depth. Mechanically very raw but can be cleaned up. A thrower at the moment who could see big time gains with increased understanding and pitchability.
2/16/2019: Jose Guzman Jr., RHP/3B, Ben Davis, HS, 2020, 6 foot 4, 205 pounds, throws from a mid ¾ slot and medium/long arm action. Also drops down with his fastball occasionally. FB had good spin and sat 87-90, CB had slurvy action and sat 71-73. From his slot, Jose might be a candidate for a power slider in the future. CH had arm side fade and sat 77-80. Jose showed better pitchability at this event, using less effort and throwing more strikes.
4/12/18 Spring Scout Blog: 6-foot-2, 185 pound right-handed pitcher possesses a strong arm with potential to continue increasing his velocity as delivery matures. Struggled to command the fastball, often missing up and arm side due to timing issues. Delivery has a hitch prior to stride that makes it difficult to repeat. Arm action is clean, loose. Creates a downhill plane when he's on time. Fastball was 85-86 the first two pitches of the game, but he settled in to 81-82 from the stretch in his only inning of work. Breaking ball has downer action at 70-72. He finished with 35 pitches in the first inning, giving up 3 runs on 4 free passes and 2 hits. Interesting arm to follow as he continues to develop.
