Hoffman got the start for Westfield as the only freshman in the lineup. An athletic, 5-foot-10 185 pounder, Hoffman collected a triple in his first trip to the plate, turning around a two-strike pitch into deep right-center field. Hoffman would finish the game 2 for 3 with one run batted in, two runs scored, and one walk. The Westfield outfielder hits from a wide setup, using a small, simple load with an efficient lower half. The swing works on an uphill plane with above average bat speed. He played LF in this look, showing athletic actions and an average arm. A very solid runner for the class (6.95), Hoffman has some upside in CF in the long term, where he profiles best. Hoffman continues to elevate his hit tool and there is more bat strength due to off-season strength gains.
Hoffman is another left-handed hitting '27 that we have been monitoring. An athletic prospect with compact strength, Hoffman stands at 5-foot-10, 185 pounds and his foot speed (6.95) continues to progress as he adds strength, an encouraging sign. Hoffman posted the best bat speed metrics of any '27 at the event, stemming from an efficient lower half that works connected with the ground. The path works uphill, allowing for future gap power projections, and he showed barrel accuracy with his best ball leaving the bat at 90.9 mph. Hoffman is another freshman prospect with CF upside, and his bat is his carrying tool.
Indiana's '27 class appears to be very strong from our early looks and OF Lincoln Hoffman (Westfield) is a young outfielder from this group that our staff is excited about. With a profile that strongly resembles that of current Indiana signee Cole Decker - Hoffman owns an exciting profile as a left-handed hitter with one of the better run tools in the class. A 7.00 runner that will undoubtedly blaze into the sub-6.8 range soon, Hoffman showcased a pure left-handed stroke with his best barrel coming off at 91.3 mph. There is some gap-to-gap feel within Hoffman's game and his athletic, 5-foot-10, 185 pound frame still has room to pack on strength.
Position Profile: OF/3B
Body: 5-9, 160-pounds. Athletic build
Hit: LHH. Taller, slighty open stance. Short stride w/ a minimal hand load. Smooth stroke that works slightly uphill. Strong position at heel strike. Top of the order type bat that runs well for the class.
Power: 86 max exit velocity, averaged 78.4 mph. 287' max distance.
Arm: RH. OF-77 mph. Longer arm action w/ some quickness from an OTT slot.
Defense: Athletic feet, soft hands that work out front, quick exchange.
Run: 7.23 runner in the 60.
