Body: 6-foot-1, 205-pound sturdy frame
Pitching: Projectable, needs to command off-speed pitches for strikes. Drop-and-drive delivery, high effort. ¾ arm angle, quick arm speed, compact arm action. Tall balance point, even shoulders, lands soft, an upright finish.
FB: T81. 79-80 mph. Hard action, in the zone accuracy, heavy movement.
CB: 69-71 mph. Sinking action, occasional control, 11/5 movement.
CH: 76-76 mph. Fading action, arm side control, sharp movement.
Sam Reed: LHP/1B, (2022) Brebeuf Jesuit, IN. 6-foot-1, 205-pound solid frame. During batting practice, the left-handed hitter showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 92 mph. Setup includes a big load and balanced stance. Ended his swing with good extension on his finish. A line drive approach. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 81 mph; natural exchange. Showed a loose arm action on his throws. Clocked a 60 time of 8.11 at the event. On the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle and a short arm action. Slow temp type pitcher and uses some effort. Produced a fastball that came in at 83-85 mph with a max of 85 mph; shows low in the zone command and running action. His changeup (76-79) showed tailing action. His 1/7 curveball (66-67) showed swing and miss action.
2/23/2019: Sam Reed, LHP/1B, Brebeuf HS, 2022, 6 foot, 165 pounds, throws from a mid ¾ slot and long arm action. Fastball had ASR and sat 76-80, CB sat 59-63 and was loopy, CH had some arm side fade and sat 70-71. Sam recorded an exit velo of 78 mph using good rhythm and a good separation. He is still young and has plenty of room to grow, and with his current skill set it will be interesting to see his game progress.
6/27/17: LHP pitches from a long, 3/4 arm action. Average balance, regular effort in the delivery. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders. Good direction to the plate, lands square, athletic finish. Fastball has slight run. Breaking ball has 1/7 sweeping shape with early gradual break. CH is thrown with near fastball arm speed with fade.
