+ '28 C/RHP Spencer Schiff (Evansville Mater Dei) was another exciting '28 prospect in attendance. Offering a high-waisted look with some strength present already in the 6-foot-1, 170 pound frame, Schiff showed well in all facets with a very advanced set of skills. An above average runner already (7.13), Schiff showed off a repeatable stroke during batting practice, hitting out of a wide setup with small moves and creating bat speed in a short window. The bat works flatter through the zone, with his best balls elevated to the pull-side gap with strength, reaching a peak exit velocity of 90.8 mph. Schiff showed strong catch-and-throw abilities during the workout, accurately placing the ball on the second base bag with pops as low as 1.97. The projectable youngster is also an intriguing watch on the mound, up to 83 mph last spring with feel for a breaking ball.

Hit: RHH. Hits out of a wider stance, starts slightly open. Short, quiet load with small load. Simple operation. Turns the barrel on a slightly uphill path, shows ability to match plane. Advanced bat speed & strength for class - should grow into significant power. Best hitter for age at the event.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 80.5 mph. 283' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-70 mph. INF-71 mph. Quick, compact arm action from an over-the-top slot.
Defense: 2.25-2.36 pop times. (C) - Consistent exchange with quick footwork on throws to 2B. Soft hands behind the dish w/ abv avg flexibility. Shows ability to get underneath bottom of the zone strike. (3B) - Quicker feet, flashes ability to play in rhythm. Hands are soft with feel to exchange. Shows ability to quick release.
