2/23/13: 6-foot-3, 215 pound junior possesses an athletic frame with strength. In the field possesses a quick arm and throws from a high ¾ arm slot at 80 mph. His hands are above average and possesses good body control. At the plate shows a balanced setup and wraps his bat during his load. His lower half is explosive. Displays quick bat speed with an uphill swing plane. Produces barrel whip and displays raw power. Big bodied right handed power pitcher. Short quick ¾ arm action. Delivery shows some choppiness and effort, but overall it is repeatable. Fastball was 82-84 with little run. Off speed offerings still need development. Overall, Smith is a raw pitcher with a quick arm. Projects more as a positional player right now. Would not be surprised if Smith is 86-88 at some point in the near future.
