6-foot-4, 230-pound 1B / RHP with a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with his feet even, his hands high and his weight shifted back; uses a high elbow to generate power; uses rhythm in his hands for timing. Has a straight to the ball swing path and a high, two-handed finish; gets off his back foot well. Showed off his power in batting practice by driving the ball around the field. At 1B, got to each ball without issue; showed solid glove work when in good position to field; threw from a sidearm arm slot; made strong and accurate throws; 85 mph position velocity. On the mound, shows athletic ability with his size; has a fluid motion; uses momentum to get off the mound with strength; throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Stays on top of the ball well; locates FB low in the zone; 85-87 mph FB with a max of 88. Has depth on CB when he stays on top; 70-73 mph CB. Overpowered hitters in the game; showed projectability both at the plate and on the mound. Recorded a 60 time of 7.67.
2/16/2019: William Melby, 1B/RHP, Munster HS, 2020, 6 foot 4, 230 pounds, uses controlled weight shift to load and has balance throughout swing. Recorded exit velo of 92 mph, and showed good gap power despite having a low barrel at launch position. On the mound, William throws from a long arm action and mid-high ¾ slot. Comes set closed with his feet and strides across body. Fastball showed a little asr and sat 85-87, often missing arm side because of his direction. Curveball was 70-72 and showed tight spin and good 11/5 shape at times.
12.8.18: Big and physical at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. The right-handed hitter showcased raw power during his BP round from an uphill path and quick bat speed. Registered a high exit velocity of 92 mph off the tee. From the crouch he was an event best 82 mph and recorded pop times of 1.95-2.05.
