Hit: RHH. At the plate starts in a narrow, tall stance. Quick leg lift and hand load into uphill swing plane. Shows solid bat speed and extension through the zone. Gap to gap approach with hard line-drive contact.
Power: 84 mph exit velocity off the tee and 88 mph exit velocity in BP.
Arm: RH. C - 73 mph. Short over-the-top arm action with accuracy around the bag.
Defense: 2.00-2.06 pop times. Behind the plate, shows quick footwork and exchanges. Flexibility and receiving ability both present.
Run: 7.27 runner in the 60.
Alec Kanakares: C/RHP, (2024) St. Thomas Aquinas, KS. 5-foot-9, 160-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Kanakares had an exit velocity of 77 mph. Started in a tall stance with a smooth load, then used a short stride to start his swing. Has upward swing plane, explosive bat speed and high finish. During his round he produced loud contact and found some barrels. Pull side approach. While catching, he had a pop time of 2.20-2.30, he produced a position velocity of 69 mph during throw downs; had soft hands, developing footwork and a lengthy exchange. Wide setup with some flexibility. Used a short arm action with an-over-the-top slot. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.84 60-yard dash. Above average on the mound, showing quick arm speed he used a long arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Up-tempo type pitcher who shows some effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with a clean finish. Changeup (68-69 mph).Produced a fastball that came in at 76-79 mph; showed consistent command and running action. Showed tight action and arm side command on his curveball (63-65).
