Barney has long limbs and large frame at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds and is left-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.51 second 60 and a 4.38 second home-to-first. During batting practice, slight across the body stride, leverages front side, quiet load, feel for the barrel, inside out approach during round. In the outfield, works behind the baseball, clean transfers, momentum towards target, three-quarter release, positional velo of 79 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Barney has a projectable frame with room to grow, controlled leg lift, arms and legs coming at the hitter, high three-quarter release. Fastball sits 75-77 mph, tops a 78 mph, curveball is 64-66 mph, thrown for strikes, 11-to-5 shape, gradual action, changeup is 72-73 mph with occasional sink.
1/26/19 - Barney is a 6-foot-2 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.63 home to first and had an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in athletic position, efficient load, short in line stride, compact swing short to contact, middle of the field approach, level swing plane. In the outfield, over the top arm slot, long arm circle, controlled action with clean exchange on time with footwork, 76 mph positional velocity. Barney uses a rock stop in the wind up and hides the ball behind right hip in stretch, controlled delivery, over the top release, works in line down the mound, throws with regular effort, fastball at 75-76 mph, works to the bottom of the zone, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, 65-67 mph, late at times, good arm side run when down the zone.
