Left-handed hitter with strong frame and good power. Runs well, 4.31 and 4.33 down the line in summer game. Good arm strength from the outfield. Downey was 3rd team All-State as a sophomore at Warren East.
3/3/19: Displayed potential both in the batter's box and in the grass for the Bears. Hitting in the middle of the lineup, the lefthanded hitting Downey starts from an open stance with his hands locked and loaded at ear level, with enough bat speed to turn on balls 0n the inner half. He has excellent awareness of the strike zone, rarely chasing balls off the plate. Though he's not a burner, he gets good jumps and tracks the ball well in right field with an above-average arm to deter runners from taking the extra base. He made an outstanding leaping play up against the wall late in the game against Texas State to preserve Baylor's only victory of the weekend. (Granger)
