Strong 5-foot-11, 196 pound frame. Right handed hitting catcher. Uses an aggressive approach and looks to drive the baseball. Balanced stance with a smooth load. Creates lift in swing, especially to the pull side where he flashes significant power. Was all over event metrics leaderboard for the event including 96 mph exit velocity during BP (2nd), and the top average exit velocity during BP at 91.12. Also led the event in the Blast metrics of hand speed avg (24.95), max rotational acceleration (30.60), and average rotational acceleration (24.71).
Solid defender across the board behind the plate. Quick transfer and release with consistent footwork. Above average receiver and blocks well. Handles velocity. Best recorded arm strength from the crouch at 78 mph. Efficient 1.95-2.02 pop times with mostly strong, accurate throws to the bag.
6/8/14 Initiates swing from closed set up with short knee to knee leg kick and stride, Strides closed consistent with set up. Very strong athletic frame for age. Achieved 82 bat exit velocity while demonstrating good balance and feel for barrel. There is some length to swing and hip turn is somewhat passive.
Overall Heighton is a definite follow and a very interesting prospect in Class of 2021.
