LHP Joey Broughton (Northville, MI, 2024; Pittsburgh) is one of Michigan’s highest rated prospects, sitting at No. 3 in the state’s 2024 class (No. 179 nationally). Although Broughton’s sheer dominance on the mound was impressive, his demeanor on the mound was also notable. A true competitor who walked around the bump with quiet confidence, it was clear the thought on Broughton’s mind was to throw strikes and win. Standing at 6-foot-2, 197-pounds, it took minimal effort to produce upper-80s fastballs that touched 90 mph and 91 mph. His curveball sat 75-77 mph with 2500 RPM, and he threw it for strikes, keeping hitters off balanced. In four innings of work, Broughton struck out nine and allowed one hit.

He has even shoulders and a low strong balance point. Lands square with an athletic clean finish. Curveball (70-73 mph), changeup (76-78 mph). Joey Broughton: LHP/1B, (2024) Northville, MI. 6-foot-1, 175-pound. Athletic projectable at the plate, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 94 mph. (72.4 mph bat speed average). (20.1 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed was explosive above average, displayed a level swing plane and level finish. Found multiple barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Smooth in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 84 mph; had twitchy hands, a quick exchange, and smooth footwork. Fields the ball deep, movements laterally were developing. Used a long arm action and an-over-the-top slot while showing decent accuracy to the base. On the mound, curveball (71-72 mph), changeup (73-76 mph). Sat with his fastball at 85-87 mph with a max of 88 mph; (Max spin 2313; Avg 2220).
