As for Nepute, his talents on both sides of the ball proved integral to the success of Francis Howell this spring and largely propelled the Vikings deep into the MSHSAA playoffs. He’s a high level athlete at the plate with a silky smooth right-handed stroke and an innate feel to hit, slashing .356/.441/.470 this spring with 14 stolen bases and more walks than strikeouts. He anchored the Vikings on the mound as well, pumping a mid-to-high-80s fastball and spinning a 2,200+ RPM breaking ball around the zone. He hurled a team-high 65 â…” innings with a 1.50 ERA and 78 strikeouts over that span as well.
Brysen Nepute: OF/LHP, (2023) CBC, MO. 5-foot-10, 180-pound physical frame. At the plate, Nepute's 92 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Starts in a tall athletic stance with a small load, then uses a controlled stride to initiate his swing. Had short swing plane, and his bat speed was electric. Found lots of barrels with loud contact . Pull side approach. Above average when throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 92 mph;showed athletic feet, a clean exchange and sure hands. Used a high ¾ slot with a long arm action while showing decent accuracy to the bag. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.95 60-yard dash. Above average on the mound, showing good arm speed he used a high ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. Feel type pitcher who shows easy effort. Balance is tall point with uphill shoulders in his delivery. Lands square with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 80-83 mph with a max of 83 mph; has in the zone control and running action. His curveball (69-70) shows some action. He shows fading action on his changeup (76-76).
Nepute is a physically mature 5-foot-10 182-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2023 class. He ran a 4.14 home to first and had a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a tall and thin stance, slight weight shift to back side, minimal hand movement to load, quick hands with quick bat speed, bat path has lift to plane, stays balanced on strong lower half, middle to pull side contact with power. In the outfield, combination of athletic and powerful, attacks ball, quick transfer and throw, high three quarters arm slot, loose and quick arm action, plays through the ball, 90 mph positional velocity. We be a highly followed player in his class. On the mound, smooth acceleration down the mound, controlled to leg lift, over the top arm slot, in line stride, showed arm strength with fastball at 83-85 mph, some with two-seam action, breaking ball at 70-72 mph, mostly 12-to-6 action but would show some 11-to-5 action, change up at 74-77 mph, some with arm side sink.
