At the plate, open stance, controlled load with minimal hand movement, leg kick, swings with intent to hit the ball hard, above average pull side power, consistently squared up ball during hitting evaluations. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.00 and 2.06-seconds, loose over the top arm slot, quick transfer, explodes to throw with strong base and fluid footwork, transfer in sync with feet, somewhat accurate around the bag, throws flash carry. On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, short over the top arm slot, big frame, moves well, fluid footwork on time with feet, momentum to throw.
1/31/16 - Schmidt is a physical 6-foot-2 220-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.82 60 and has an exit velo of 90 mph, one of the top RHH exit velos for the event. At the plate, open stance, leg kick, aggressive bat speed, pull power, loose hands. Behind the plate, 2.12 to 2.50 pop times, 75 mph positional velo, pop times and velo among the top for the event, over the top release, aggressive, momentum through towards second base, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throw, strong, will be a player to follow in 2019 class.
