Kelly has a broad shouldered, physical frame at 6-foot-2 200-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.67-seconds, and recorded an exit velocity of 87 MPH. Offensively – starts in a tall, athletic stance with hands above back shoulder and front foot slightly opened. Uses a leg kick and stride to start swing, hands load down and back fluidly. Strong lower half helps produce some line drive pop. Finishes with some lift to swing and follow through. Defensively – took reps from the outfield. Throws topped at 78 MPH from right field with a short quick arm action. Plays through throws with momentum on the follow through. Throws were on target.
New Jersey Games (July 23-25, 2016)
Kelly stands at 6-foot-2 180-pounds and certainly passes the eye test as a baseball player. Ran a 7.70 60, but intangibles/movements in the OF project him to be better. Offensively, had one of the better batting practices of the event, despite Exit Velo of 79. Smooth, athletic LH swing started with Carlos-Gonzalez-like leg kick. Hands and hips are aggressive in swing. Had two multi-hit games.
Defensively - Throws were on line from an over-the-top arm slot. Threw 82 from the OF. 60 time will improve as he continues to grow into his frame. Projects as a corner outfielder at the next level.
9/20/15 -- Kelly has a physical build with broad shoulders; already 6-foot-1, 165 pounds. He hits from the left side with an athletic, slightly open base and a high pre-set elbow. He utilizes a knee-to-knee leg kick and does a nice job of not landing hard on his front side. His swing plane is smooth, typical of a left-handed hitter. He has good carry on his throws from the outfield and if he can increase his speed, could project to be an above average rightfielder.
