Hodgins is a phiscally built 6-foot-2 200-pound corner infielder, primarily a 1B. Ran 7.68 60, had Exit Velo of 86 mph. Homered to deep left field on the first day of games. At the plate, starts is a tall, narrow stance. Uses a leg lift and big stride to transfer weight and load hands. Occasionally drifts weight forward because of how big stride is. Strong enough already to drive the ball to the gaps.
Defensively - Projects as more of a first baseman at the next level. Took ground balls at third base during skills portion. Needs to improve foot agility if he wants to play third. Although, has arm to play there (84 mph across the infield). Choppy feet, but smooth hands and a relatively clean transfer. Stabby type of arm action.
9/20/15 -- Hodgins is a physical first baseman; 6-foot-2, 215 pounds. He is a right handed hitter who hits from an athletic base. He utilizes a leg kick and occasionally lands hands on his front side which is a concern. He showed big time strength and power potential; drove many balls back to the fence. He posted the event's top exit velocity at 91 miles-per-hour off the tee. Defensively, he moved well for a big man around 1B. He picked several throws from the shortstops and showed the best infield arm strength at 86 MPH. The first baseman has potential to be a very solid collegiate power threat.
